Summer is a great time to meet new friends, develop new skills, and acquire new knowledge for the year ahead. This summer, CRG providers will run five different groups to address a range of interest areas and age groups. Here are descriptions of each.
Dr. Chris Kerr will continue to run her Mothers’ Support Group on the third Wednesday of each month from noon to 1:00. This group is for mothers of children/youth with identified learning, attentional, or mood disorders. Come once or come each time. Share your experiences or listen to/support other mothers as they share their own experiences. In an empathetic environment, we can use our time together to brainstorm strategies, identify resources, and instill hope. Participants are welcome to bring their lunch. There is no fee for this group.
Dr. Sandra Burkhardt will offer her Recipes for Success group on May 13 and June 10. Both dates are Mondays; the group meets from 11:00 to noon. This psychoeducational group is for parents or grandparents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Rather than provide therapy, Dr. Burkhardt will provide instruction and promote greater educational awareness. You will learn more about ASD issues and how to apply them in your family while raising your children or grandchildren. Session topics might include suggestions for positive management of behaviors, handling meltdowns, structuring family time, and finding support. There is no fee for this group.
Dr. Dana Lasek will run a new group called The Power of She. This group will meet every Tuesday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. the weeks of June 3, June 10, June 17, June 24, July 8, July 15, July 22, and July 29 (no group the week of July 1). This is an interactive support group for young women ages 16-20 struggling with relationship issues and low self-esteem. Please join Dr. Dana Lasek for a fun, interactive group designed to help you find your inner power!!! Fee: $70.00/session.
Dr. Nathan Larson will continue to run two groups for boys; both are designed to provide supportive and solution-focused group therapy to enhance the development and use of appropriate social skills. Fee: $70.00/session.
Dr. Sarah Norris will continue to run her group Girl Power. This group is designed for girls ages 8-10. The group will meet on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Topics will include starting and sustaining friendships, respecting others, problem-solving, and increasing flexible thinking. Activities will include discussion, journaling, role playing, art work, and demonstrations. Some activities will be geared toward team building for a specific activity that can only be completed if group members work together. Fee: $70.00/session.
Beth Waite will offer a new group for boys and girls ages 13 – 18 called Connections.
