Tell us more about your professional background and education.
My first degree was from Wheelock College (part of Boston University) in child development. After working on a brain injury unit as an OT/PT aide, I worked up the nerve to apply to nursing school. Next, I earned an Associate of Science in Nursing degree. I really enjoyed the psychiatric clinicals in nursing school. I have worked as an R.N. in three different states (Massachusetts, Florida, and Indiana). All patients are “psych” patients…. we may not realize it. My Master’s Degree is from IUPUI. I did Nurse Practitioner (NP) clinical hours at Gallahue Mental Health Services in downtown Indianapolis.
What drew you to behavioral health care?
I love seeing patients go from depressed and fatigued to feeling brighter and less anxious. I most recently worked in-patient at St. Vincent Stress Center for eight years. As a child I was interested in psychology. I recently found a book report on schizophrenia I wrote in the 3rd grade. It included a plagiarized drawing of disorganized webs from schizophrenic spiders!
Why did you choose to create your practice at CRG at this stage in your career?
I found CRG years ago as a frustrated parent needing answers! The entire CRG staff was so unhurried and knowledgeable. Years later, when it was time to apply for an NP position, CRG was a great fit. I have a unique prospective as a parent and an NP navigating the system.
What days are you at CRG and when do you see patients?
My schedule is Wednesday through Friday.
Tell us more about the kinds of patients you see/plan to see and the types of services you will provide to them. What age ranges?
I am open to seeing all age patients from childhood to adult. ADHD, depression, anxiety and autism are common diagnoses in the patients I tend to see.
How would your best friend describe your personality?
Humorous, compassionate and curious. I try to laugh at myself, daily. Humor is my greatest weapon. I also care a great deal about educating and supporting clients to be well-informed. I always want to know more….
Please tell us anything you’d like us to know about your family and what you enjoy doing during your time away from the office.
I have been married to Jeff (from Indy) for 12 years. We have a 9-year old son and a 5.5 year-old daughter. We love to walk our dog, play basketball, or play bingo at home together. We are Colts fans. I love to cook, read books and garden. I also love to find old furniture and spray-paint it. My husband, who does not share my passion for turning trash to treasure, would rather be golfing. I grew up in Massachusetts, so my favorite place to visit is Cape Cod. I have a terrible Boston accent…but most people think I’m from New Jersey!
