Challengers
This group is designed for 15–17-year-olds to facilitate the development and use of social skills. The goal is to assist group members in identifying and developing the skills they need for them to engage in more adaptive, successful, and mutually satisfying interactions. We do this through direct instruction, role play, and goal-directed interactions. The content of the group is constantly modified to address the needs of the group members. They will be provided opportunities to practice skills in a low-risk environment. They will be encouraged to share experiences with one another and think of new and adaptive ways to handle the situations they perceive as challenging. Outlines of each group are frequently provided to facilitate parents assisting the person to apply the developing skills.
